“…for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.” – 2 Corinthians 8:21 (ESV)

At The Oasis on Orangewood, we believe that trust is the foundation of every strong partnership. We are deeply committed to faithful stewardship of every gift entrusted to us, ensuring that your contributions directly advance our mission with the utmost integrity and transparency.

Imagine navigating a parched, unforgiving desert. For many in transitional seasons of life, this isn’t just a metaphor – it’s their reality. They arrive feeling isolated, parched for genuine community, desperate for direction, searching for a firm foundation to build their lives upon, and in dire need of support to establish independent lives before being overwhelmed by life’s inevitable emergencies. Then, they find The Oasis.

The Oasis on Orangewood is more than just a place to live; it’s a spring in the desert. Here, through affordable housing and intentional Christian mentorship, we provide a haven where individuals can find refreshment, direction, and a supportive family-like environment. Our prayer is that, within this community, they not only gain the tools for self-sufficiency but also encounter Christ, if they don’t know Him already, finding the true Living Water for their souls. Your generosity makes this life-changing transformation possible.

Your Gift: Fueling a Journey from Parched to Prosperous

Our mission is to empower those navigating transitional seasons – individuals who are eager to build a stable, independent life but need a supportive foundation to start. Many arrive feeling overwhelmed, often financially vulnerable, seeking not just a roof over their heads but a path forward. This is where our Tiered Rent Program becomes a lifeline, and where your partnership is vital.

We recognize that true self-sufficiency doesn’t happen overnight. Our community members begin their journey paying a significantly reduced rent (possibly starting as low as 20% of the full amount). Over time, as they achieve personalized goals in career, education, faith, and finances – with the dedicated support and mentorship of our host family – their rent contribution gradually increases in stages (to 40%, 60%, 80%, and eventually 100% of fair market rent). Each stage is flexible, tailored to their individual progress and needs.

Your donation directly bridges this gap. The rental subsidy you provide is the critical difference between what a community member can initially afford and the actual cost of operating the property. These funds ensure they have a stable, furnished home with all utilities included, freeing them to focus on their growth without the immediate crushing weight of full market housing costs. This financial stability, combined with Christian mentorship and accountability, allows them to gain an education, establish a career, deepen their faith, and ultimately step into complete independence. By funding this rental subsidy, you’re not simply paying someone’s rent; you’re investing in a life. You’re giving someone the breathable space to find their footing, pursue their dreams, and discover their God-given purpose, transforming a journey through the desert into a passage through an Oasis.

Where Your Gift Goes: Direct Impact at The Oasis

Unless otherwise specified by the donor, your generous contribution will primarily support our Tiered Rent Program. This ensures that people in transitional seasons of life receive the vital housing subsidy they need, allowing them to focus on building a stable future through our Christian mentorship and community framework.

Additionally, you may direct your funds to:

  • Fund the Executive Director’s Salary: The success of The Oasis hinges on the continuous, compassionate presence, prayer, and round-the-clock availability of our host family. As the leading candidate for Executive Director, Skylar Stephens will be a primary leader, and her compensation will be strictly a salary without a housing benefit. You may designate your gift to contribute to her salary, recognizing her unique commitment to our mission.
  • Enrich Community Life: While our primary focus is housing and mentorship, the vibrancy of our community is fostered through shared experiences. Donations can also support various community activities that strengthen bonds and foster growth, such as:
    • Guys’ night out
    • Ladies’ night out
    • House dinners
    • House game nights
    • House worship nights
    • House church services
    • Neighborhood meals
    • Neighborhood service

Our Commitment to Sustainability and Transparency

The Oasis on Orangewood operates as a nonprofit organization, legally dedicated to charitable and religious purposes. We have applied for tax-exempt status with the IRS. Contributions are not tax-deductible at this time, but we expect them to be once our application is approved.

The property that houses The Oasis on Orangewood is the result of two generations of our family’s life savings and represents our personal commitment to this ministry. As the beneficial owners, the Stephens Family is responsible for significant capital improvements, such as our planned hydroponics and aquaponics projects. These enhancements increase the property’s value and are funded separately by the owning entity.

It’s essential to understand the clear distinction between the owning entity and the nonprofit operating entity (The Oasis on Orangewood. To ensure strict compliance with nonprofit regulations and to prevent any private enrichment, the rent collected from community members by The Oasis on Orangewood (the nonprofit) is used to cover no more than half of the costs of ownership of the property. Crucially, the amount paid from the nonprofit to the owner will not exceed the actual documented cost of operation. Evidence of these operational costs will be provided to the nonprofit every quarter.

This clear distinction ensures that your donations to The Oasis on Orangewood are exclusively used for program services, operational costs directly tied to our mission, and the support of our community members and managers. Your generosity directly impacts lives, providing affordable housing, vital mentorship, and a thriving Christian community, without contributing to the property’s equity.

Are Donations Tax Deductible?

We have applied for tax-exempt status with the IRS. Contributions are not tax-deductible at this time, but we expect them to be once our application is approved. Our organization is a non-profit corporation and has an application for 501(c)(3) status pending with the IRS. Upon approval, your donation will be retroactively tax-deductible.
