Our Purpose

The Oasis on Orangewood provides safe, affordable housing and Christian mentorship to those in transitional seasons of life in a Christ-centered discipleship community.

Our Vision

The world is full of conflict, pain, and distortions. But, “Be of good cheer: ‘I have overcome the world.'” The gospel’s good news is that Christ has overcome, and in Him, we can, too. We believe individuals can have an overcoming story that helps others and gives them purpose. Finding a Christ-centered identity is often best achieved within the right community. We seek to provide a safe place to grow, heal, and move into the ministry you were created for.

Our Story

The vision for this project was born in 2021 out of the recognition that in this world, a Christ-centered community for those in transition is limited. In 2021, Dan and Skylar completed YWAM, in which the community living deeply met the God designed need for connection. During this experience, it also became clear that in our fractured and individualistic world, the need for authentic community is desperate. And out of that came the desire to create such a place where authentic Christ-centered Community is affordable and accessible. After an extensive property search, God brought us to the Oasis on Orangewood. The property was purchased, and renovations began in February 2022 and were completed in May 2024. It was a long and grueling process, in which we saw the Lord’s favor over and over again. Our first community members joined us in February 2024, staying in an RV until renovations were completed. As we continued to develop the vision, it became clear we needed to expand our network. In July 2025, we incorporated the 501(c)(3) to increase our partnership with local churches.

Meet the Host Family

The Oasis on Orangewood is fueled by the dedication and heart of our host family, who serve as the community managers and initial board of directors.

The Stephens house is a multigenerational family, from 80’s to babies. Dan and Skylar have four children and are passionate about serving our Lord. Dan is a licensed mental health counselor, while Skylar has many years of experience in social work. Both are eager to utilize the skills and talents God has provided to walk with others through life.

Skylar Stephens

As a mother, wife, and social worker turned homemaker and home educator, she fuels the heart and soul of the community here at The Oasis. She keeps the wheels on the bus, the coals burning, and holds down the fort. This, of course, is all only done through the grace and love of Christ. Community members will see her the most.

Dan Stephens

Dan is the husband of Skylar and father of four. He works as a Licensed Professional Counselor and may someday be a pastor. He works with Joe on keeping the property running smoothly and architecting the long-term vision.

Joe Stephens

“Grandpa Joe” is the husband of Sheryl and the father of six. A former Marine Engineer, salesman, and entrepreneur, he worked for over a decade in elder care, including during COVID. Joe is the master craftsman (though he’d never call himself that) who has contributed the most to building The Oasis and keeps it running smoothly.

Sheryl Stephens

“Grandma Sheryl” is the wife of Joe and the mother of six. A former scrapbooking enthusiast, she still loves creating memories for everyone around her. She also worked with Joe in elder care, developing the original vision for the adult family homes they operated, which ultimately led to the opportunity to establish The Oasis.
